Come Together: Everybody Reviews the Beatles
The songs do have additional dimension and clarity, with each seem ascribed a distinct position in the stereo spectrum. Musicians and hi-fi perfectionists may absolutely be able to hear the click of a plectrum on George Harrison’s nerve guitar strings, the spittle frothing at the end of Paul McCartney’s patois, the sardonic sneer that shapes John Lennon’s vowels and even the particular squeak of Ringo’s bass drum pedal.
They will also find out succinct evidence of each player’s individual procedure: little errors in timing and quirks of musical judgment that were buried in the mono mixes for the greater textile of the song.
His review ends on a suitably Beatles-esque nourishment metaphor (“Savoy Truffle,” anyone?), concluding that “listening to the mono set is like dipping into brand-new, organic guacamole. Listening to the stereo set is akin to being served a dish of chemically enhanced avocados, tomatoes, onions, lime and soused, and a mortar and pestle. Make of it what you will, but it probably won’t soup like the real thing.”
He’s not the only reviewer hungering for new Beatles product. In The Washington Post, Peter Kaufman makes no apologies for the extended victuals metaphor that opens his review. He writes:
You sit down at your favorite neighborhood restaurant and importance beef bourguignon. Soon a team of waiters approaches and lays it out in front of you — but unassembled, each ingredient in its own bantam saucer: floured and browned beef cubes, sauteed nonpareil onions, a carrot, a carafe of full-bodied Beaujolais, some garlic, the whole Julia Daughter rigmarole.
The 4 Cs of diamonds
*Cut
The acuteness and sparkle depend on the cut of the diamond, its facets and its reflective qualities. It does not hope the shape of the diamond. When light enters the diamond and is reflected back, that is what gives the "light-heartedness". In a poorly cut diamond, the sparkle seems to leak out the sides, reducing the evidence and brilliance. Several grading methods have come about to help terminate the cut. These include ideal (only round diamonds), premium, very good, safe, fair.
*Clarity
Most diamonds have some inner flaws which are called inclusions that transpire while being formed. These would be small air bubbles or cracks. Blemishes are flaws on the exterior of the diamond. Visibility, size and number of inclusions or blemishes discover the clarity. Diamonds are graded under magnification for clarity. F is flawless, it is extremely rare with no internal or outer flaws. Next would be IF which is internally flawless, some blemishes but no internal inclusions. This is very rare. The next standing down is VVS1. This is very tiny, minute inclusions visible only under magnification. SI1 is marginally included as is Vs1, inclusions seen under magnification. I1 through I3, three grades that the blemishes and inclusions can be seen with the unvarnished eye.
*Color
Colorless diamonds are very desirable due to allowing the most light to exhibit, resulting in the most sparkle. Color is the composition of the diamond and does not alter over time. To judge the color or colorless of a diamond a note scale is used. D, E, F is considered colorless. G, H, I, J is near colorless. K, L, M is ill-defined yellow. N, O, P, Q, R is very light yellow. S, T, U, V, W, X is light yellow.
